Harris Academies
All Academies in our Federation aim to transform the lives of the students they serve by bringing about rapid improvement in examination results, personal development and aspiration.

The Governing Body

Purpose of Governor Role

To contribute to the work of the governing body in order to maximise standards of achievement for all pupils, which involves providing a strategic direction for the Academy, acting as a critical friend and ensuring effective accountable for performance.

The Academy is a member of the Harris Federation. Ultimate responsibility for the Academy rests with the Board of Trustees of the Federation, (Federation governance details and scheme of delegation can be found here), but much of the work of the Board is delegated to the Local Governing Body (the Governors of the Academy). Some Governors are appointed by the Federation whilst others are elected by parents or guardians of students at the Academy or by staff. The details of the Governors at Harris Primary Crystal Palace are shown below.

Reporting Arrangements

Collectively Governors will engage with the Academy in order to discuss, challenge and approve the annual Academy Self Evaluation, the annual Academy Improvement Plan, Academy performance targets, Key Performance Indicators and recommend these and the draft annual budget to the Federation Board via the CEO.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Determining the aims, policies (other than Federation policies) and priorities of the academy
  • Monitoring and evaluating the work of the Academy and feeding this back to senior staff and middle managers when appropriate
  • Ensuring the health and safety of staff and pupils
  • Monitoring of the budget and recommendation of the annual draft budget to the Federation
  • Ensuring the Child Protection procedures are followed appropriately
  • Ensuring the implementation of appropriate personnel procedures relating to recruitment (e.g. Criminal Records Bureau checking and Safeguarding
  • Setting and monitoring progress towards achievement of performance targets
  • Ensuring that the Academy adopts policies which ensure high Academic standards, good behaviour and attendance
